Is there a limit on how many classes I can attend?
No, all of our members, including future members who are in a trial period, are able to attend as many classes as are available in our weekly schedule. No caps on attendance. If you can train multiple times in a day, go for it!
What makes your program special?
What makes us special is threefold; 1. We have the best teacher to student ratio in the Charlotte area - for every student there are usually two instructors willing and able to provide expert guidance in all of our programs 2. We have world class competitors as instructors, who've been able to succeed at an international level and have translated their skills to fit all of our student needs. 3. We are here to do more than just train - we're here to have fun and stay in shape and build a positive lifestyle that is conducive to overall wellness.
Do I have to compete?
No. Competing is not required. Competitions are available if the student is interested, but not a requirement at our academy.
Do I need to be in good shape?
No! All of our programs are designed to HELP you get into great shape, there is no need to "get in shape" before starting. Our supportive staff will help you develop all the skills necessary to fit right in, no matter what!
Is there an age limit?
This may sound cliche, but to us, AGE is nothing but a Number! whether you are 5 or 55, all of our programs can be tailored and modified to your specific needs. We have an extremely diverse program that includes training partners from multiple generations!
What do I wear to train?
Depending on the training program, our simple suggestion is to bring clothes that you are comfortable breaking a sweat in, especially if it's your first time visiting us. Uniforms are not required until you decide to sign up and join the team!
How should I prepare for my first class?
Bring a positive attitude, and a mind that is ready to learn new skills! Additionally, bring a container or bottled item to make sure you stay hydrated.
Is training martial arts safe?
Yes, the overwhelming truth is that ALL activities in martial arts are positively safe when practiced in the appropriate manner. However, this does not negate the possibility of an injury. At TMA we go above and beyond to ensure that our students are protected and cared for, but there will always be a risk, even if small when compared to other injury events, that may cause an injury. The key is to always know your limits, and respect the staff when instructed to modify your training behavior if it is deemed negative for yourself or others.
